Today, February 15, 2018, we have incorporated a brand new English-speaking Rotary Club "Lituanica International".
It has been a fun and smooth journey from the idea to execution and we look forward to become a fully chartered members of Rotary International worldwide community.
Today there are already 52+ Rotary Clubs in Lithuania, district #1462, and a number of new clubs are on a way to build their membership and get a charter. Overall, there are more than 1.2 million Rotary members from more than 200 countries and geographical areas.
The idea to start a new English speaking Rotary club has sparked at the annual Rotary conference on October 20, 2017, when Tadas Šatkauskas, district Chair for the New Club Development, a prominent Rotarian based in Klaipėda, asked on a stage two thought provoking questions to all Lithuanian Rotary leaders that have gathered - "Have you thought about a second district in Lithuania?", "Have you thought about sponsoring or establishing a new Rotary Club and growing our community?"
That was the moment. All three of our founders were present at the conference, and we all shared an inner drive to create a new, vibrant Rotary Club, which would reflect the newest ideas about the mission and purpose of Rotary, will incorporate best practices and tools to run a lean and effective NGO, and will create opportunities for globally-minded professionals to join efforts for the shared goals and inspiring fellowship. We also saw an obvious need to have an English speaking Rotary club with more convenient meeting schedules for a busy entrepreneurs and professionals, involved in international business, therefore we elected to have 2 regular meetings per month on Wednesday evenings adding, as we like, extra informal events and gathering opportunities.
Now, having an official legal entity - Rotary Club "Lituanica International" - incorporated in Lithuania under the Law on Associations, we seek to build our membership, start meaningful and lasting projects and obtain an official charter from Rotary International, headquarted at Evanston, Illinois, USA.
